My Project

Science is a subject that many students look forward to as it has such large amounts of hands-on activities. The option to integrate practical learning and application into the more theoretical book learning makes science a subject that brings together students from all disciplines. This practical learning opportunity, however, is not equal across all student groups.

Students deserve to have new, fun, and varied experiences in education, regardless of their ability to provide materials.

Not all school districts have the ability to provide the materials for the more fun or long running experiments, and teachers should not have to burden that cost to give their students new experiences. Personally, my students do not have the ability to carry that cost either, and as a public school, they shouldn't have to.

Help me provide the last materials that would allow my students to participate in two of the most fun activities in our environmental science class. In one, they will be studying the effects of agriculture and soil salinization on seed germination, drawing parallels between our community and their lab results. In the other, students will be stepping into the shows of an environmental disaster clean-up crew. They will simulate an oil spill and test the materials practical application when it comes to cleaning up that spill, timing and grading themselves on how fast and completely the spill is contained.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
