Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

For some of our seniors, graduation will be a first for their family. Many come from low-income households where preparing for life after high school can be exciting, but also expensive. Our school serves students from many different nationalities, cultures, and backgrounds, and each senior has a different story. Some have had to overcome challenges just to make it to this point. Others are preparing to step into spaces foreign to their family members. I want our seniors to know that we are proud of how far they have come and that we care about where they are going.

For our Senior of the Month program, we would like to give one senior each month a duffle bag filled with personal essentials.

Over 10 months, we will recognize 10 seniors and provide them with items they can actually use after graduation. Some of our students will attend college, while others will enter the military, begin a career, or pursue technical training. No matter which path they choose, they will need basic items as they become more independent. For some families, purchasing these items all at once may be difficult. This project is one small way we can help our students feel a little more prepared for what comes next.

As an educator, I want our seniors to leave high school with more than a diploma. I want them to leave knowing that someone saw their effort, their growth, and the obstacles they endured. These bags may seem simple, but what they represent is much bigger. They tell a student, “We see you, we are proud of you, and we believe in what is ahead for you.” Your donation will help us celebrate in a practical and personal way. One senior, one bag, and one reminder that their future matters.
