The Senior Experience: Celebrating Today, Preparing for the Robotic Age

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Senior year is a big deal! Our students have worked hard to get here, and I want to make sure we celebrate them before they walk across the graduation stage. This year, we are creating a Senior Experience that gives students opportunities to be celebrated, prepared, involved, and heard. I want them to enjoy their senior year while also preparing for what comes next. Most importantly, I want them to know they have people in their corner who believe in them.

A special part of our Senior Experience is our new Senior of the Month program in partnership with the Winston-Salem Rotary Club.

Each month, we will recognize students for leadership, academic growth, perseverance, attendance, character, school involvement, and positive choices. I especially want to recognize students who may not always receive an award or hear their name called. Success looks different for every student, and all growth deserves to be celebrated. Each recipient will receive a Senior Recognition Package with Class of 2027 keepsakes, journals, planning supplies, and other special items. I want to give our seniors their flowers while they are here to receive them!

We are also preparing students for life after school through Senior Advisory, Lunch & Learns, college and career planning, scholarships, guest speakers, and leadership opportunities. An iPad dedicated to senior use will help students complete applications, research scholarships and careers, and work on postsecondary plans. A refillable color printer will support senior recognition, events, certificates, scholarship information, and college and career resources.

This first phase gives us the foundation to get started. Our seniors have worked hard to reach this point. Now, it is our turn to celebrate them, support them, and help them finish strong!
