This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am an Elementary School Librarian, and would love to have some quality recording equipment to use for projects in the Media Center, and throughout the school.

To supplement the reading that we do in the media center, I have been creating Read Aloud videos to share with students on the morning news, and with families, so that our students have access to Read Alouds whenever they want them.

Currently, I use my phone to make the videos. This option works, but having more professional equipment will make the Read Aloud experience so much better. A great example of the quality I am trying to measure up to is the YouTube channel Kid Time Story Time.

After doing some research on cameras and lighting options, I feel confident that the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Creator Combo and Torjim Softbox Lighting Kit will allow me to improve the quality of my videos, as well as save me lots of time. My current method of using the phone is very time-consuming.

Moreover, using a high-end camera like this will allow me to pause and highlight pictures or words from the story to enhance student comprehension.

This equipment will also be useful for student-led projects in the Media Center. For example, in previous years, we have done a book talk project, where students pick a favorite book of theirs and create a short video about what makes the books special to them. These videos will look so much more professional with these recording tools.

Additionally, this equipment will be used for morning news segments featuring students, and will be made available to our yearbook committee throughout the year as we create content for the school’s yearbook.
