My Project

What I love most about our students is their curiosity. They are eager to ask questions, share their ideas, and learn about people and places beyond their own community. The Global Read Aloud gives us an opportunity to turn that curiosity into authentic learning by connecting our students with classrooms around the country-and potentially around the world-through a shared story.

The books requested through this grant will allow multiple classrooms to participate in the Global Read Aloud together.

As our students read the same books that other children are reading during the same weeks, our teachers can build meaningful lessons around literacy, communication, technology, and global awareness. I will support teachers by providing the books as well as resources and lessons that help them extend the reading beyond the pages.

When possible, we will use technology to connect with other participating classrooms through virtual meetings and other collaborative activities. Students may have the opportunity to discuss the story with peers in another state or country, ask questions about one another's schools and communities, and discover both differences and similarities in their lives. These experiences help students see reading as more than an assignment-it can be a way to connect with people they otherwise might never have the opportunity to meet.

Ultimately, these resources will help us use a shared love of stories to build stronger readers, thoughtful communicators, and more curious and globally aware learners.
