Sensory Tools for Sensory Seeking Kids

Help me give my students the sensory tools they need to regulate their bodies and participate in the academic school day.

My Project

My students are curious, energetic, and full of potential. My middle school students are learning not only academic skills, but also how to manage emotions, interact with others, and navigate the world around them. Many of my students benefit from extra sensory support throughout the school day, and I love watching them grow in confidence when they are given the tools they need to feel safe, calm, and successful.

We are working to create a sensory space that can support both of our self contained special education classes.

The sensory resources in this project will provide opportunities for calming, movement, tactile exploration, and emotional regulation in a safe and welcoming environment.

The sensory swing and tent will create a cozy calm-down space where students can relax when feeling overwhelmed. The weighted plush sensory toy will provide comforting deep-pressure input that helps students regulate emotions and feel secure. The spinning chair will support children who need movement to help organize their bodies and improve focus. The sensory mats and sensory toys will encourage tactile exploration, visual tracking, and sensory engagement that support self-regulation and attention skills. The chew toys will provide safe oral stimulation. The flexible seating options will provide a variety of seating options in the classroom.

These resources will help students develop coping strategies, improve focus, and return to the classroom ready to learn. Most importantly, they will help children feel understood, supported, and included in our school community.
