Book Study for ESL Students!

Help me give my students books to improve their academic English and help them rock the ACCESS test!

My Project

My students are 4th- and 5th-grade English learners. They are both culturally and linguistically diverse and come to our school with varying levels of English proficiency. They are working hard to improve their academic English so they can pass their proficiency tests and succeed in their future schooling.

Learning to read can be difficult for many students, but English learners face additional barriers that can sometimes make them feel frustrated and reluctant to read.

I want my students to feel inspired and motivated to continue trying, even when tackling new words and difficult concepts. One way I will do this is by using the book 𝘖𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘏𝘰𝘮𝘦. This book is culturally relevant and responsive to my students' identities and will also teach them about the experiences of a young refugee girl. I previously used this title as our featured book study last year, and my students loved it! This year, the class I will be working with has 12 more students than last year. We need extra copies so we can conduct the book study again this year.

In addition, our classroom badly needs cleaning supplies so that germs will not spread once the school year starts. Some disinfecting wipes would help us keep our areas clean and germ-free.
