My Project

Every day in my English classroom, my students are asked to do something that can feel surprisingly difficult: make their thinking visible. We annotate texts, analyze evidence, discuss authors’ choices, trace themes, and work together to understand challenging literature and nonfiction. But when I am modeling these skills from a traditional computer and projector, there is a disconnect between what I am doing and what my students are seeing.

I am requesting a SMART Board/display with a mobile rolling mount so that I can bring interactive, real-time instruction directly into our learning space.

With this technology, I will be able to project a text and annotate it alongside my students in real time. Instead of telling students where to look or explaining what an annotation might look like, I can model the process directly on the text—highlighting important passages, circling evidence, writing questions, identifying literary devices, and demonstrating how strong readers think through a text.

The rolling mount is just as important as the display itself. My classroom is designed for collaboration, discussion, and movement rather than having every student face the same direction all day. A mobile display would allow me to move the technology around the room depending on the activity—bringing it closer to small groups, positioning it where every student can see it during a discussion, or moving it aside when students need space to collaborate.

Most importantly, this project would help me create a classroom where students aren’t simply watching me teach, they are thinking, questioning, annotating, discussing, and creating alongside me.

Your support would give my students a tool that makes the invisible process of reading and thinking visible. It would help me model skills more effectively, make challenging texts more accessible, and create more opportunities for students to actively participate in their own learning.
