My Project

Before my 4th graders can be their best learners, they need time to laugh, move, connect, and simply be kids.

Recess is more than a break from academics.

It is an opportunity for students to build friendships, explore interests, practice teamwork, and return to class refreshed and ready to learn. As a first year 4th grade teacher, I want to create a recess environment where every student feels included and has something meaningful to do.

I am requesting a variety of indoor and outdoor games and equipment, including jump ropes, soccer balls, playground balls, Scrabble, Connect 4, Jenga, Tapple, Guess Who?, and more.

These may seem like simple games, but they can make a meaningful difference. For a child who may not have games or sports equipment at home, these resources provide an opportunity to play and feel included. For a student who struggles socially, they create a welcoming way to connect with classmates\. Most importantly, they help students practice taking turns, communicating, cooperating, problem solving, and being good teammates.

Indoor recess options are especially important on rainy, extremely hot, or otherwise challenging days. Rather than simply sitting at their desks, students can continue to interact, play, laugh, and build important social emotional skills.
