Building Social Studies Understanding Through Read-Alouds

Help me give my students informational posters and new books to enhance our Social Studies lessons with read alouds and visual materials.

My Project

My students are curious, thoughtful learners who thrive when they can connect what we are learning in social studies to real people, real experiences, and meaningful stories. This year, I want to build a classroom library of high-quality read-aloud books that will help bring history and social studies concepts to life.

The books and posters in this project will support our social studies curriculum throughout the school year, including topics such as early American history, government, economics, geography, and the contributions and experiences of diverse groups of people.

These texts will provide an opportunity for students to listen, question, discuss, and think deeply.

My hope is that by providing my students access to engaging, age-appropriate historical narratives, we can transform social studies from a collection of facts into stories of courage, challenges, innovation, and change. I know these books will become resources students return to throughout the year as they continue to grow as historians and informed citizens and help the pages come alive during our trip in the spring to our nation's Capital!
