Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students need more than pencils and paper to access instruction successfully. This project will provide toner for creating visual supports, adapted instructional materials, task cards, communication resources, differentiated assignments, classroom displays, and other individualized learning materials. It will also provide sensory tools, magnetic building materials, stickers, and small incentives that can be incorporated into our classroom’s reinforcement and regulation systems.

When students have the supports they need to regulate, communicate, engage, and understand what is expected of them, barriers to learning begin to come down.

The sensory and fidget materials will provide appropriate options for students who benefit from movement, tactile input, or brief regulation breaks. Magnetic building tiles will provide opportunities for hands-on exploration, creativity, fine-motor development, problem-solving, and STEM learning. Stickers and other small rewards will help reinforce positive behaviors such as completing assignments, following classroom expectations, communicating appropriately, demonstrating independence, and persevering through challenging tasks.

The toner is equally important because visual access is a critical component of our classroom. Many of the materials my students use cannot simply be pulled from a traditional workbook. I regularly need to adapt, enlarge, simplify, individualize, or visually support instructional content based on student needs. Having reliable access to both color and black toner allows me to create materials when students need them instead of limiting instruction based on what happens to be available.
