This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a math teacher in a low income and high poverty school where a 100% of my students receive free lunch. My children are faced with many challenges in their daily lives. Despite the obstacles they may face, they are eager to learn and look forward to engaging and meaningful learning experiences.

Critical thinking and discovery are key to the success of my students; my biggest challenge is having the math resources like the ones I have requested for this project to achieve this task.

By having the needed materials, such as the place value disc and multiplication games, the tools will provide an opportunity for my students to obtain mastery status on various math standards.

My goal is to provide my students with positive educational adventures that will enhance their potential and academic growth. Students will use the hand2mind math manipulatives to learn p[lace value and develop their counting skills. The Multiplication Game will be used to learn their multiplication facts. The dice will be used for a variety of math activities during our small group sessions. Our day is full of engaged students who want to excel. By the end of the year, I would like for my students to love learning and to exceed grade level standards.

During Math Workshop, formal and informal data on my students is used to group the children according to their current math level. While I am working with a group, other groups are at stations around the room working on math standards that need to be reviewed and practiced. The resources I am requesting will provide students with the necessary manipulatives that can be used for modeling solutions or representing mathematical concepts.
