Sensory Play Sparks Learning Everyday

Help me give my students Light Table Sensory materials to work on their fine motor skills.

Mrs. Massey Lake Wylie Elementary School
Charlotte, NC Grades PreK-2

My Project

Every day, my students learn by touching, exploring, and discovering the world around them. Sensory play is one of the most effective ways for young children to develop language, fine motor skills, problem-solving abilities, and social-emotional skills while engaging their natural curiosity.

Sensory experiences provide a calming environment that helps young learners regulate their emotions and stay engaged.

My classroom would greatly benefit from a durable clear sensory tray along with a variety of sensory materials. The clear tray provides a dedicated space for hands-on exploration, while sensory items such as textured objects, manipulatives, and other engaging materials encourage children to investigate, compare, sort, and create.

These materials will support learning across many developmental areas. Children will strengthen their hand muscles as they scoop and pour, expand their vocabulary by describing textures and colors, practice early math concepts through sorting and counting, and build social skills by sharing and collaborating with classmates.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
