The Novel Nook on Wheels: Maximizing Literacy in Small Spaces

Help me give my students a mobile classroom library that will provide easier access during independent reading time and the flexibility to move collections to different learning stations.

My Project

As an ELA educator in rural North Carolina, one of my goals is to foster a lifelong love of reading in my students; however, with a growing classroom library and limited floor space, traditional shelving is no longer a viable option. My classroom is currently at capacity for fixed shelving, leaving independent reading options in stacked bins and cabinets that are difficult for students to browse.

Engagement increases when readers can see titles and easily pull books from shelves.

The "Novel Nook on Wheels" seeks funding for a heavy-duty, double-sided mobile book truck. This mobile library solves multiple problems: spatial constraints (a mobile cart can be moved to the center floor during independent reading), accessibility (shelving allows for "spine-out" or "cover-out" displays), and versatility ("themed" sets such as Black History Month, Holocaust texts, and Graphic Novels rolled directly to literature circles and learning stations).

Once purchased, this mobile library will benefit not only my current roster of students but also every future class that enters my room.
