This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Third graders are at a magical stage in art where they begin to care deeply about precision, texture, and technical skill. My young artists are tactile learners who thrive when they get to experiment with hands-on materials and physical mechanics. They love the feeling of constructing something with their hands, and printmaking is the ultimate medium to capture their excitement for tactile creation!

Our goal for this project is to introduce over 75 third graders to the authentic studio art of relief printmaking through matrix design, ink rolling, and pulled impressions.

Using soft foam plates, students will learn how to impress deep textures and line work into a surface without needing sharp carving tools. Rubber brayers will allow them to master the physical technique of rolling out smooth, tacky ink ribbons, while water-soluble Speedball inks will ensure crisp, high-contrast transfers onto paper.

This project moves students away from standard drawing and into the mind of a graphic artist. Working in collaborative partner teams at dedicated inking stations, my students will practice sharing resources, controlling ink distribution, and pulling multiple original print editions. Your support provides the exact specialized tools needed to turn their carved ideas into bold, repeatable art prints they can be proud of!
