My Project

My students attend a Title I school where many families work hard to overcome financial challenges, yet they arrive each morning eager to learn, encourage one another, and grow. They inspire me every day with their resilience, curiosity, and determination. I believe every child deserves a classroom that says, “You matter. You belong here.”

Our classroom was originally built as a science lab, leaving us with an awkward layout and very little flexible seating.

While we’ve worked hard to transform the space into a warm and engaging learning environment, we are still missing a comfortable area where students can gather to read, collaborate, and build meaningful connections. These two futons will transform an underused corner into a cozy reading lounge where students can participate in guided reading groups, independent reading, literature circles, partner discussions, and one-on-one conferences with their teacher.

Research shows that students learn best when they feel safe, comfortable, and connected. A welcoming reading space encourages reluctant readers to pick up a book, helps students remain engaged during small-group instruction, and fosters thoughtful conversations that strengthen comprehension and confidence. My goal is to create a classroom where reading is more than an assignment—it becomes an experience students genuinely look forward to each day.

Together, we can create a space that reminds my students they are valued, capable, and worthy of every opportunity to succeed.
