This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My middle school STEAM students are curious, creative problem-solvers who thrive when they can learn by doing. They design, build, test, revise, and create every day, but many have never had the opportunity to work with ceramics equipment or experience the joy of throwing clay on a wheel. These pottery wheels would open the door to a completely new way of learning that combines art, engineering, science, and design.

A pottery wheel transforms a lump of clay into a lesson in perseverance, creativity, and problem-solving.

Students will explore concepts like force, motion, balance, geometry, and material science while learning to center clay, shape forms, and refine their techniques through practice. Unlike projects with a single right answer, pottery encourages experimentation and teaches students that mistakes are simply part of the creative process.

My goal is to give students access to authentic tools that help them see themselves as artists, makers, engineers, and designers. My students are special because they bring incredible creativity and unique perspectives to every challenge they face. With your support, they will gain the opportunity to create something meaningful with their own hands and discover skills and passions that can last a lifetime.
