My Project

Learning to read is one of the most important milestones in a child's educational journey. As a first-grade teacher, I have the privilege of helping my students build the foundational skills that will shape their future success. This year, our school district is implementing UFLI, a research-based phonics program grounded in the Science of Reading. This program is designed to provide students with explicit, systematic instruction that strengthens their understanding of the relationship between letters and sounds, helping them become successful readers and writers.

Many of my students come to first grade with a wide range of reading abilities.

Some are just beginning to connect letters and sounds, while others need additional support to build confidence and fluency. UFLI provides explicit, systematic instruction that helps children understand the relationship between letters and sounds through engaging, hands-on lessons. By strengthening these foundational skills, students are better equipped to read, write, and communicate successfully.

The resources requested will help bring these lessons to life and provide my students with meaningful opportunities to practice and apply what they are learning each day. With your support, my scholars will have access to materials that make learning interactive, engaging, and effective. Hands-on tools such as cookie sheets and magnetic letters will allow students to physically manipulate sounds and letters as they build, decode, and spell words. Activities make phonics instruction more engaging while helping young learners develop a deeper understanding of how words work.

As students gain confidence in recognizing letter-sound relationships and blending sounds to read words, they become stronger readers and writers. They are also better able to share their ideas, collaborate with classmates, and engage in learning. The confidence they build today will support their academic success for years to come.
