Rocks Rock! Some Gneiss Would Be Nice.

My project needs various large hand samples of rocks and minerals in order to observe their physical properties.

East-West is a new and growing school. The 2007-2008 school year will be our second year as part of the New York City School System. East-West is expanding from 2 grades to five grades this school year, more than doubling our enrollment. I will be the inaugural Regents Earth Science teacher serving 85 10th grade students, gearing them up for the Regents in June. This proposal is to request many large hand samples of rocks and minerals for the students to use during the class. The samples are a variety of igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks as well as many different minerals. Since we are starting up the school we are short on a lot of essential supplies including many of the rocks and minerals that are needed to let the students observe the variety and beauty of the Earth's natural materials. If students are able to hold large hand samples of different types of rocks and minerals they will be able to see the individual unique characteristics. You can help students observe and actually hold the Earth so they can see it in a way they never have before.
