This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students need consistent access to engaging, real-world reading that strengthens literacy skills and builds knowledge of the world around them. A classroom subscription to TIME for Kids will provide high-interest nonfiction texts that help my students grow as confident, capable readers.

TIME for Kids offers age-appropriate articles on current events, science, social studies, and real-world topics in a way that is engaging and accessible.

For many of my students, especially those who may not have regular access to nonfiction reading at home, this resource helps close knowledge gaps and build essential literacy skills.

Each issue gives my students opportunities to read, discuss, and analyze informational text, skills that are critical for reading success. As my students engage with these articles, they practice identifying main ideas, supporting details, vocabulary in context, and author’s purpose, all aligned with our state’s fifth grade standards.

Beyond reading skills, TIME for Kids helps students become more informed and curious learners. Students explore real-world topics and engage in meaningful discussions that build critical thinking, empathy, and confidence.

This subscription will also support whole-class and small-group instruction, giving my students opportunities to share ideas, ask questions, and connect reading to their own experiences. These conversations strengthen their communication skills and encourage deeper understanding.

By providing a TIME for Kids subscription, this project will give my students ongoing access to meaningful nonfiction reading that builds literacy skills and expands their understanding of the world.
