My Project

At our Title I middle school in Wake Forest, we know that academic success begins with strong habits—and organization is one of the most important skills students can develop. As a 7th grade ELA teacher and team lead, I see every day how students are more successful when they are given clear systems and the tools needed to take ownership of their learning.

When students learn how to take control of their learning, confidence grows and achievement follows.

This year, our 7th grade team piloted an organization-focused initiative designed to build student accountability and independence. Students maintained structured folders, tracked assignments and due dates, recorded grades, and set SMART goals each quarter. They also engaged in regular reflection and participated in one-on-one conferences with teachers to monitor progress and celebrate growth.

The results were powerful. Missing assignments decreased significantly, while student confidence and academic performance improved. More importantly, students began to view themselves as capable, responsible learners who could advocate for their own success.

With your support, we hope to expand this initiative across the entire 7th grade. Funding will provide binders and dividers that will intentionally build and reinforce organizational skills, helping students keep materials structured, track their progress, and stay on top of assignments and goals. These tools will directly support student success by creating consistent systems across classrooms and empowering students to build habits that will benefit them far beyond middle school.

Together, we can equip students with the tools they need not only to succeed in 7th grade, but to become confident, independent learners for years to come.
