In our recent summer-themed art project, my SPED students used the scratch art paper to create vibrant, expressive artwork that highlighted their creativity and individuality. We also began incorporating STEM into art class using the magnetic tiles—students loved building colorful structures, then sketching them from different perspectives to connect engineering and design. And perhaps the most exciting addition has been the 3D printing pen, which we've started using to add dimensional elements to our art pieces. One student created a raised sun and waves for their summer beach scene—it was a proud moment!\r\n\r\nThey were thrilled! The scratch art paper instantly sparked curiosity and joy—many hadn't used anything like it before. When I introduced the magnetic tiles and the 3D printing pen, there was an audible \"Wow!\" in the room. Students were eager to experiment and couldn't wait to get their hands on the new tools. It's been heartwarming to see their excitement turn into focused creativity.\r\n\r\nWhat are the next steps for your students on a current classroom lesson or project?\r\nNext, we're planning a collaborative mural project where students will design and build a 3D \"art-meets-STEM\" cityscape using both the magnetic tiles and paint. They'll work in teams to plan and construct different parts of the city, and then document the process through photography and short written reflections. My students loved being able to use the clay, the playdoh, and the geli plates for their printing project. Your contribution to my classroom has expanded the knowledge to my students. Students had so much fun practicing their final products with play-doh before moving on to their final clay projects. During the process, the students learned the importance of manipulating the material to get their expected results. Teachers and families have all shared how wonderful this project was for their child.\r\n\r\nThe geli plates were used for a printing project where students created a background for their self portraits. Students were really excited to work with this medium because they had never used it in the past. One of the ways my students have used the items that were donated was by creating an \"Album de Familia\" or (family album). Students were tasked at the end of the unit that covered and focused on family members' words, descriptions, and their likes to create a family album with pictures or drawings, and a paragraph describing their family members. By using the construction paper, colors, and markers my students created the album and crafted it. This project allowed my students to illustrate their understanding of the unit but also allowed their creativity to be seen. At first when my students saw the materials they asked where they came from as they were curious because they noticed immediately that they were new additions to our classroom. After explaining, they were so thrilled. For the upcoming lessons my students will work in units focused on clothing, places, and food. One of the projects I foresee my students working on is creating a menu with images. This will conclude with all the units before the 8th students take their final exam to receive high school credit.
