This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We have a great bunch of students here at our school. We are a Title I school with an "F" rating. Our students are sadly falling through the cracks. Most of these students are not familiar with what a bedtime story is, and have no fond memories of sitting on a lap being read to. For many of them, my class is their first experience with reading a book of any kind.

We read 4 novels a year in my class.

"Hatchet" - "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH" (thanks to gracious donors on this site) - "Where the Red Fern Grows" - "Percy Jackson". I already have the last three sets. I am still lacking a class set of "Hatchet".

I am happy to report that, although I'm new to teaching here, my students have shown growth overall each year. Reading proficiency is on the rise.
