My Project

What I love most about my students is their curiosity and resilience. They come into the library with a wide range of interests and reading levels, but they are always willing to try something new. Many of them are discovering, sometimes for the first time, that books can transport them to different places, help them understand other people’s experiences, and even help them better understand themselves. They are thoughtful, energetic, and eager to connect what they read to the world around them.

A class set of The War That Saved My Life will help students grow as readers and as empathetic thinkers.

This novel provides rich opportunities to explore historical fiction while building comprehension, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills. Students will engage with complex characters and important themes such as resilience, courage, and overcoming adversity. Having enough copies for the whole class will allow every student to participate in meaningful, shared reading experiences, discussions, and activities. This ensures that all learners—regardless of reading level—can access the text, collaborate with peers, and develop confidence in their reading abilities.
