My Project

My students are curious, resilient, and full of potential. In our K–2 self-contained classroom, they learn in unique ways due to a range of disabilities that affect communication, behavior, and focus. What makes them special is their determination—they celebrate small victories that are big milestones, and they thrive when given the right tools and support. I want to create an environment where they feel safe, confident, and capable every single day.

With the right sensory and communication tools, my students will be able to stay calm, focused, and finally express themselves with confidence.

Sensory resources such as weighted lap pads, flexible seating, fidgets, and noise-reducing headphones will help students regulate their emotions and remain engaged during lessons. At the same time, communication tools like visual supports, communication buttons, and picture exchange materials will give my students a voice—allowing them to share their needs, reduce frustration, and participate more fully in classroom activities.

My goal for this project is to build independence and create meaningful learning opportunities for every child. When students can manage their sensory needs and communicate effectively, they are more prepared to learn, interact, and grow. These resources will not only support their academic progress but also help them develop essential life skills that will benefit them far beyond the classroom..
