My Project

In our high-needs first grade classroom, we are working with striving readers who are developing the foundational phonics skills essential for early literacy success. We are on a mission to continue producing 70% and above proficient readers by the end of first grade, and achieving this goal requires consistent, engaging, and explicit instruction paired with meaningful practice opportunities.

This project will provide hands-on, interactive materials that bring phonics learning to life for young learners.

Resources such as magnetic letters, sound boxes, phonics games, and mini whiteboards will allow students to actively manipulate sounds, build words, and practice decoding in a way that is engaging and developmentally appropriate. These tools will be used during whole group instruction, small group intervention, and literacy centers to support repeated practice and skill mastery.

By incorporating hands-on materials into daily structured literacy instruction, students will have multiple pathways to strengthen their understanding of letter-sound relationships and build confidence as emerging readers. This project will directly support our striving readers as they work toward becoming independent, proficient readers and help us reach our goal of ensuring 70% or more of students are reading on or above grade level by the end of first grade.
