A Slow Burn: Building Our Lab Two Plates at a Time

My Project

After a year of teaching in a non-traditional space with carpeted floors and no sinks, my students and I are finally making a huge reaction, we are moving into a true, dedicated science classroom for the 2026-2027 school year! While the new room is a massive upgrade, the cabinets are currently quite chilly. We have the space for amazing science, but we are starting from scratch with our equipment inventory.

Help my physical science and Honors chemistry students finally "turn up the heat" on their experiments as we move into a new-to-me science lab with hot plates!

To truly master the concepts of physical science and Honors chemistry, my students need to see science in action. We can’t exactly study endothermic and exothermic reactions or investigate boiling points if we don't have a way to safely provide heat! We are hoping to eventually have a full set of eight hot plates, but we are starting our journey by trying to fund our first two.

These hot plates will be the catalyst for so many hands-on labs. Having reliable, professional-grade heating elements is essential for safety and precision, especially now that we finally have a lab space that can handle the heat.
