My Students

Our students need new fiction books to encourage their recreational reading. This year, students will be invited to join our Reading Bingo 100 Club, with a goal of reading 100 books each by the end of the school year.

We are a charter school located in central Texas.

Many of our students come from low income families, and few have books of their own. The school library is their only source of reading materials. Our students love to read! New books are a rarity, and when they appear in the library, it doesn't take long for students to form a waiting list for popular books. Our students are our best form of advertising: they often recommend books to their peers.

My Project

Reading Bingo 100 Club is a reading club in which students are issued bingo cards featuring books by particular authors, genres, award lists, etc. Students fill out the bingo cards with the title of the appropriate book they have read. Each bingo card has 20 squares; if a student completes all 5 levels, they will have read 100 books during the school year; an amazing accomplishment. The 100 Club is voluntary, but every student will be encouraged to participate. The completion of each card is earns a reward, including bookmarks, restaurant coupons, and a new book. By participating in the 100 Club, students will practice their reading skills as well as library research skills. They will learn new information, as some of the requests include nonfiction. Students who complete the program will be invited to participate in an end-of-the-year celebration.

Students will also obtain a sense of accomplishment, for no matter if they are a kindergarten student listening to stories read to him, a first grader practicing her new reading skills, or an older student reading for pleasure or information, we anticipate a fun year of reading.
