Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

After a long day of work, adults sometimes go home with a fried brain. Students can do that with school and the expectation society puts on them to succeed. My students would like to be the brain break for students in elementary by creating a mentor program.

I teach Social Studies at a middle school, and my students want to create a mentor program at a nearby elementary school.

They would like to take games to play with their little peers as a brain break from class. Our school is a Title I school where about 85% of our students are on free and reduced lunches. I can only put so much money of my own into the classroom and would not ask the parents because I know that they are hardworking people that need the money themselves.

My Project

My students are asking to visit a nearby elementary school to be mentors to some of the students who need a friend. Playing games is one way to bond two young hearts together. The requested games are age appropriate for elementary and can help build confidence. The whole mentorship idea comes from my students and their big hearts. Purchasing these items will not only be beneficial to the elementary students but to middle school students looking to reach out and help their community.

No matter who you are, a laugh or good time can brighten your mood—these games will provide the students with a giggle or two.

By helping purchase these games, you are helping students keep their sanity and build relationships through a new mentorship program.
