Puppets and the Alphabet Go Hand In Hand

My students need a set of alphabet puppets and a tabletop puppet theater.

My sixteen eager and ready to learn preschool students are from an urban, high-need community in Michigan. My preschoolers are asking for your help in developing their readiness skills.

What better way to grab a preschooler's attention than through the magic of puppetry? At circle time, puppets are used to introduce and reinforce concepts and make learning fun. My four and five year old students learn through playing. Puppets are one of their favorite center time activities but we have a limited amount of puppets and no puppet theater.

With a set of alphabet puppets and a puppet theater, the children will literally have the tools for developing much needed beginning reading skills right in their hands. As puppeteers, they will be able to develop their oral language and storytelling skills. They will also be building readiness skills by having an additional puppet "friend" to help them learn their letters and sounds. With an real puppet theater, they will be able to also develop important listening skills by watching their friends' puppet shows. In circle time, I will use the puppets to make learning the alphabet an interactive and engaging experience. The children will then be able to use the puppets independently to further personalize their experience with the alphabet.
