Must See You

My students need a Lighting Controller to program and design student-produced shows in preparation for Technical Theatre college courses.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Please help in this endeavor to change a student life and bring something positive and fun to our classroom. Our school has begun the task of building the arts program for Gifted and Talented Theater students!

To the delight of my students, I often bring supplies from my personal collection to resemble a working theater environment.

After my first year of teaching, I have found a project that speaks strongly to our group of artists who care about student-produced theater. We named it the “MUST SEE YOU” Production which emphasizes a connection of artists with their audiences. The students are creating scenes and performances of a personally significant image from their lives. They will take on various roles: directors-casting their own performances, stage managers, (light, sound, and set) designers, props manager, costume (hair-makeup) designers, and actors; enabling them to identify with different jobs that are offered in the theater world, but also what they may find in themselves and other students. Regardless of sex, color, or the language in which these stories are set, human beings have faced the same decisions, choices, and challenges in life.

My Project

Presently our school lacks the funding for enrichment supplies; we have theater seats and minimal lighting instruments but need so much more. The project requires students to use the materials we have in our theater to design a strong showcase of personal statements. We are searching for a memory-based lighting console, Par lighting instruments, and two dimmer packs for the technical aspect of these projects. We are starting with asking for a lighting console! Our limited funding must go towards basic supplies such as journals, art supplies, yoga mats, theater books, masks, costume rentals, and set construction materials.

My students are talented, creative, determined, and they deserve the chance to work on what would be a meaningful experience.

Some of my students are interested in approaching performance methods, technical light design, education in the arts, and are considering furthering their theater studies in college. I would love to share an incredible creation of artistic visions and personal expressions for each and every one of them; unfortunately the monies are not available for most of the supplies.
