A Book Can Take You Anywhere

My students need a document projector to assist in lessons.

A book can take you anywhere! But what if you don't have a book? Where can you go then? Many students in my second grade class do NOT have books at home. I teach some wonderful children who dream big dreams. They aspire to be successful. They want to learn. They often do not have the materials or support they need to achieve their goals. Teaching in a underprivileged, high poverty community where many children are raised by single parents, young parents, grandparents, etc. these children often do not have what they need to survive, let alone a book to let them escape or see the possibilities in life.

I would love to be able to provide books for all of my children as they love to read. Second graders are budding readers. I often give my books to them to take home and I never worry if they are returned or not. If you like a book that much I hope you are reading it everyday. The problem I have is some students have no books at home. I lend my books out, especially ones I have multiple copies of and then I do not have enough books for a reading lesson or introduction. I would like to make it easier for myself and my students to share favorite books.

I would not like to be greedy and ask for a ton of books for my class. While I would LOVE leveled readers I can purchase some on my own for my class. I can borrow. I can write some stories myself. In light of going green and not photocopying tons of stories provided in our reading series, I would like a document projector where I can share one book with a class of 30. The projector would make a book visible in large print to the entire class. It would make the lesson more interesting as it is exciting when items such as the overhead, chart boards, etc are used. I know this would be used daily in large or small groups. I would share this with staff when I do presentations, and as a new model class for guided reading I know other teachers would be hooked with my love for teaching reading in different ways.

You may not think it is much, but to us your donation would make it possible for my students to see different countries, careers, life concepts...because, A BOOK CAN TAKE YOU ANYWHERE!
