Learning Math Can Be As Easy as 1-2-3 With Your Help!

My students need 9 different math resources for hands-on lessons which will be used to build math skills such as counting, patterning, fractions, recognizing money and number sense.

For many of us, math skills come as easy as saying 1-2-3. For my class of 16 kindergarten students from a high-poverty neighborhood, math skills can be difficult to learn. Many of my students lack experiences with math in their everyday lives.

The school that I teach at is one of the most culturally diverse schools in my district. Half of the students in my classroom are English language learners. Many of them are a year or more behind their peers in academic achievement. To help these students gain more experiences with math thinking, I provide instruction in large groups, small groups as well as give them time to interact socially with their peers in learning experiences. I lack math materials that are developmentally appropriate for the different types of learning needs in my classroom.

Since so many of my students are second language learners, they need visually stimulating and exciting materials to help them learn. Those are things my school can not provide due to lack of funding. The resources I have requested, which include fun and engaging games, materials and visual tools, will enable my students to become captivated by math.
