My students need an LCD projector to see their own work and instructional Powerpoint presentations projected for the whole class.

I teach 6th grade mathematics in an inner-city, public middle school. My classroom is a special education inclusion classroom with about one third of students identified with learning disabilities in math, reading, and/or writing.

Effective classroom instruction must include clear modeling and quick feedback. Clear modeling communicates to students correct procedures and expectations while feedback helps them know if they are on the right track. Effective modeling and feedback are difficult to provide while teaching three classes of 28 students each, many identified with special needs.

When particular students show good work or do a problem correctly, I would like for all students to see it to help them understand what is expected of them, benefit from interesting problem solving strategies, and compare their own work to exemplary work. Currently, I have to hold up student work on a piece of paper and show it around the classroom, allowing students only to see their peer's work for a few short seconds. They do not benefit from the clear model or gain feedback for their own work.

The LCD projector in this proposal (with the document camera I already have) could be used to take students' work and immediately project it on the screen in real time. All students would benefit from seeing their peer's exemplary work. Correct procedures and successful strategies would be modeled for them while they receive feedback on their own work. This projector would allow me to look at students' work, a scientifically proven strategy, more effectively as a central component of daily lessons.
