Breaking Through the Language Barrier

My students need the Spanish version and English version of the popular Rosetta Stone software.

Throughout a typical day, I teach 48 5th grade students in a rural town in Oklahoma. Our school has a high percentage of students that receive free and reduced lunches. Our community is a small, tight knit group of hard working individuals.

In recent years, our school has seen students come and go who do not know how to speak English. Many times their families also do not know how to speak English. It's hard to watch a child struggle to play with others at recess, complete school work, and be unable to communicate with his/her peers on a daily basis because they don't speak the English language and no one around them knows their native language. Many of my students in recent years have asked "Why don't we learn how to speak some of their language so we can speak to them while they are trying to learn English?" What a thoughtful and creative idea! The class can learn some of their native language and communicate with them quicker and better while the student who needs to learn English also learns it through the same software. This could also give the student who speaks Spanish the time to shine when the Spanish lessons are being taught because they know their native language.

My class needs the Rosetta Stone Spanish and English edition software to help simplify learning new languages. Rosetta Stone teaches through simple pictures and constant review of past material. My students are very eager to learn Spanish and I know that this will help them communicate better with students that are learning English.

This is one of those great learning opportunities that can bring people together through communication, build friendships faster, and most importantly help someone feel like they belong. You will make it possible, year after year, for my students to do this. Thanks for taking the time to view my wonderful students needs.
