Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Sculpture class is in a low income inter city school district just south east of the city. I usually entertain different grade levels from 9th through 12 grade usually about 30 students to a class.

Art students in my school district unfortunately have so much to overcome. I realize they have determination to make art but the lack of supplies seem to stop them short of where they want to be as a school and a district.

Students taking Sculpture classes have already shown interest in art by having taken an Art I survey class before in their career. Through Donors Choose the wood, glue and paint ordered will give my students the ability to create beautiful pieces of art. But, they can't without your help. It's important that they have the resources readily available for them to accomplish their art pieces. We need your help!

Donors will be able to see their donations at work. It will give us that extra push we need to compete with the other side of town. Art is for show and we intend to let everyone see with your support that we can create beautiful art with thought, creativity and effort. This unit will consists of creating an abstract 3-D sculpture. They will be inspired to develop their creation by observing nature around them, at home where they live, at school, the city and anywhere they can get their inspiration. Students will then construct their pieces using the wood scraps ordered gluing them and painting them for their final step to making their abstract sculptures. Such supplies do not presently exist in our classroom and the possibilities are endless. My students will be able to express themselves as never before. Students love to work large it teaches you so much. With these supplies we can be successful.
