Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach both drama and special education at a public middle school in New York. Our community is considered a high-need, low-income area, and thus we have very little funds for special projects at our school.
Every year, my students put on a fabulous musical. We rehearse after school for four months, and then for two nights we perform to sold out houses. It is the highlight of my year as well as for many of my talented students. Our problem this year is that we have very little money for costumes and props. Because we are doing "Beauty and the Beast," costumes and props are essential to telling the story. Moreover, they help the students feel more comfortable with their character, teach them about the process of drama, and make our production presentable and professional.
I am asking for paint, brushes, foam boards, sequins...basically all of the essentials to make our costumes shine on the stage. Because I am the only one who makes all of the costumes, I would appreciate anything that will help my students look amazing on opening night! It's remarkable how a little glue and some glitter can go a long way.
I cannot reiterate how much your donation would mean to my students and me. Your help will ensure that my students will have an amazing culminating experience for their year and a moment that they will remember for the rest of their lives. I still remember the costumes I wore in my middle school productions! Thank you again for your generosity!
