This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

We all need to be recognized for a job well done, wouldn't you agree? Children, because of their level of understanding, need recognition in abundant measures. As a teacher who comes in contact with over two hundred students a day, I have noticed how the simplest token of recognition lights up a child's face.

My desire to reward my students for a job well done stretches farther and is deeper than my pocket. A pencil, a box of crayons, scissors, or a certificate they can take home and show their parents for improving their behavior in the library, are the small rewards that bring the biggest and brightest smiles to the faces of the children I serve on a daily basis. Such a simple gift can give a reluctant child with low self esteem the boost of confidence to try, try, and try again. Although rewarding my students is something I've done since I started my career as a teacher, my students are well aware that they have to earn their rewards by means of continued efforts on their part. My project needs approximately 300 certificate, approximately 300-500 pencils, a class-pack of crayons, and scissors. All items will be given to students as recognition for behavior improvement and effort.

I have requested at least 200-300 pencils that are stamped with positive quotes. This will not only put a smile on their faces, but they will need to use for their creative writing assignments. The certificates will be a tangible document that they can take home and show their parents. The various other materials, like the crayons and scissors will help them create the masterpieces they want and can do if they had the necessary tools. The students understand that hard work and genuine effort will be rewarded, don't you agree?

I have witnessed a tremendous shift in the need for recognition. Although a smile, a thumbs-up, or a pat on the shoulder go a long way, that, accompanied by something tangible has a powerful impact on a child's desire to put more effort into their work. You will make it possible for my students to receive that extra visible and tactile recognition they long for. Won't you like to be part of that?
