Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Morning meeting starts the day off on just the right foot! My 4th grade students with autism love participating in morning meeting; it helps them develop social interaction skills, promotes turn-taking, and sensitizes them to the feelings of others, in addition to teaching them academic material and making them feel successful.

A year and a half ago, I was blessed with the job of teaching a self-contained classroom of 4th graders with autism. Unfortunately when I was given the job, I inherited very little in the way of materials. I also must share the room and any supplies with the 5th grade teacher and her students. When I was studying to be a special education teacher I had great visions of a daily morning meeting and stimulating group times. With the beat up, non-magnetic, white-board easel I inherited, my hopes were almost dashed. Of course, I still try to hold a morning meeting, it is just not to the level I imagined it would be. I have even found it to be a struggle to use this easel during small and large group academic time since it is so limited and not very attractive. I started to think, "How can I excite my students and myself?" and I began to peruse the teacher catalogs. Imagine my amazement when I saw the variety of white-boards available; imagine my disappointment when I was told by administration that purchasing one was not in the "budget".

This is unfortunate, because I fell in LOVE with the Premium Royal Inspiration Station. It is INCREDIBLE! It has a large magnetic, white-board and an additional slide-out magnetic, white-board. It has giant hooks for chart paper and telescoping hooks for pocket charts. The Inspiration Station has wheels and brakes - who says I have to stand in one place to teach all day? It has tubs to organize much-needed classroom materials; this would save so much time as I wouldn't have to run to my desk or the bookshelf - everything I need would be at my fingertips! It even has a rack and magnets to keep my Big Books in place! I could go on and on with the ways my students would benefit from this one piece of furniture. It is like a classroom on wheels! No more stalled morning meetings while we erase something to write something else - just pull out the slide-out white board. No more sticky hooks to hold chart paper on - the hooks always fall off anyway. No more taping things to the board - we can use magnets! No more pauses in our reading because we dropped the Big Book or lost our page. No more holding up pocket charts or trying to find a way to fasten it to the easel. It is a miracle!

Your generosity would save my morning meeting and enhance my academic group times. My students and I would be INSPIRED to teach and learn from one another!
