Look! Can I Share My Work With the Class?

My students need a document camera to share their work, follow along in picture books, observe demonstrations and to interactively use with our smartboard.

My Students

"Feedback is the breakfast of champions," was written by Kenneth Blanchard, American author and management expert. First graders love to share their work, but immediate feedback and sharing is a challenge in our classroom because everyone cannot see at the same time.

We are Froggy First Grade friends who are hopping into first grade.

They enter first grade with a wide range of abilities and talents. School comes easy for some and is a great challenge for others. We celebrate every success, big or small. We are a neighborhood school which also includes many school of choice students. We are proud that we are a Michigan Blue Ribbon Exemplary School. In addition, the National Wildlife Federation has certified us as a Schoolyard Habitat. We have a wild life habitat and flower garden. Our PTA is very active in helping us maintain this certification. We are also a Michigan Green School and actively recycle materials in our building. Our classroom includes children from all economic backgrounds, diverse nationalities and includes children diagnosed with autism. We believe in inclusion in all our classrooms. Everyone is welcome in our school.

My Project

First graders use picture clues to help them figure out unknown words. They look at the word, look at the pictures and then use their brain to solve the word. They use invented spelling to write words like cuzins (cousins). Imagine being able to use a document camera to share those details and give feedback with the whole class watching. Imagine how powerful it will be to the visual learners in our room. We'll be able to share books, Weekly Readers, writing, photos without having to wait until I can make an overhead to share with the class. We can use math manipulatives to demonstrate regrouping, patterns and much more. I can demonstrate how to draw a frog or the steps to drawing a star while my students follow along using their whiteboards. In addition, the document camera will help us reduce copy and supply costs and support our green school efforts. I will be able to take their writer's notebook and share it immediately with the class and give instant feedback.

As Kenneth Blanchard said, "Feedback is the breakfast of champion." I want to feed my students breakfast all day so they will grow up to be champions.

Let's make champions together.
