I want to include more STEM projects for my students to prepare them for careers in our technologically advanced society. For many years, I coached an after school robotics team, and I would like to bring that experience into the classroom. We are requesting Edison robots, so we can learn computer programming through robotics. The Edison is a small programmable robot that can be used to teach hands-on computer programming concepts. It has several built-in sensors, and students can connect LEGO bricks for more advanced projects. It can be programmed using Edison’s graphic language, Scratch, and Python. It’s also fairly affordable, and it comes with free lesson plans. Through this project, my students will work cooperatively in small groups to problem solve, create, build, program, and test. These are skills that will put them on the road to a successful future.
