What is DonorsChoose and what is this pilot about?

DonorsChoose is a nonprofit organization that connects donors with classrooms in need. This pilot program in Puerto Rico aims to finance projects for teachers in the Bayamón district and other selected schools. Each project can receive up to $1,200 in funding, on a first-come, first-served basis and while funding lasts.

Who finances the pilot projects?

The projects in this pilot program are being funded by DonorsChoose and our partners, including The Peterson Family. This differs from our standard model, where individual donors fund projects. Once your project is approved, it will be funded immediately, ensuring timely support for teachers and their classrooms.

Is DonorsChoose in Puerto Rico legitimate and free for teachers?

Absolutely. DonorsChoose is a trusted nonprofit organization with a proven track record of supporting classrooms across the United States. We have partnered with the Bayamón School District and other schools to run this pilot. The pilot program in Puerto Rico is an extension of our dedication to supporting teachers and students in underserved communities. Your participation in the DonorsChoose pilot is legitimate and completely free for teachers.

Why is this a pilot program?

By starting with a pilot program, we are able to gather valuable feedback from teachers, donors, and partners in Puerto Rico to tailor our support and services to best meet the needs of the community. This allows us to ensure that we are providing the most relevant and impactful resources to Puerto Rican educators and students. As we learn from the pilot program, we will be able to expand and scale our efforts even further!

Can teachers write their project essays in Spanish?

Yes absolutely! While instructors will be required to navigate our website in English, they are permitted and encouraged to write their project abstract, essays, and titles in Spanish.

Where can I buy materials?

We have partnered with two suppliers, Lakeshore Learning and Amazon, who will provide you with a wide catalog of school supplies for you to choose from.

How long will it take to deliver the items once a project is approved?

Typically, items will be delivered approximately 5 weeks after a project is approved. We strive to ensure timely delivery to support teachers and their classrooms.
