My Project

My students deserve classroom furniture that supports the way they learn, communicate, and participate. Unfortunately, our current tables are extremely narrow and do not provide the depth or workspace needed to meet our students’ instructional and accessibility needs.

For many of our students, a classroom table needs to hold much more than a worksheet.

Students may need communication devices, adaptive equipment, learning materials, and adult support—all within reach and at the same time. Our current tables simply do not provide enough space.

Currently, my students have a limited workspace and do not have enough room to access instructional materials alongside communication devices and other essential supports.

With my current tables, my staff and I struggle to support small-group instruction due to the narrowness of our tables. Our small groups require multiple materials, adaptive equipment, and adult support are difficult to accommodate at the same workspace.

Currently, our challenge is limited personal space. The narrow design places students and staff very close together, increasing the likelihood of accidental or intentional contact.

Most importantly, the tables lack the depth needed for students who use eye-gaze technology. Even after trying different stands, mounting systems, and seating arrangements, we have been unable to create an effective setup with our current furniture. This severely impacts my eye-gaze users, as their devices require careful positioning and adequate table depth for students to consistently access their communication systems.
