Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our students are naturally curious and love to create, build, and solve problems. They enjoy taking ideas from their imagination and turning them into something they can hold, test, and improve. Many of them have a strong interest in technology and engineering but may have limited opportunities to explore these fields before they are eligible to enroll in our middle school Engineering program.

This Makerspace will provide sixth-grade students with an engaging environment where they can develop creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and perseverance through hands-on learning.

Whether students are designing with building block systems, experimenting with electronics, creating prototypes with our 3D printers, or exploring coding and engineering challenges, each activity will encourage them to ask questions, test ideas, learn from mistakes, and improve their designs using the Engineering Design Process.

The resources requested for this project will allow students to experience engineering in meaningful ways. Building materials will help them investigate structures, mechanisms, and design principles. Electronics kits will introduce them to circuits and technology through interactive exploration. Filament and prototyping supplies will enable students to transform digital designs into physical objects, reinforcing the connection between imagination and innovation. Every resource will support collaborative, project-based learning while helping students build confidence in their ability to solve real-world problems.

Most importantly, this Makerspace will help students discover that engineering is for everyone. By providing early exposure to design, technology, and problem-solving, these experiences will prepare students for future STEM courses, inspire them to pursue new interests, and help them see themselves as future engineers, designers, programmers, and innovators.
