My Project

My special education students are part of the first graduating class of a new Career & Technical Academy in Las Vegas, Nevada. They are building their futures in a brand-new school environment while learning the academic, social-emotional, and career-readiness skills they need to become successful young adults.

For many of my students, learning does not always happen best while sitting quietly at a traditional desk for an entire class period.

Flexible seating options, calming tools, and sensory-friendly resources can make a meaningful difference in their ability to focus, regulate their emotions, and participate in learning.

I would also like to provide snacks for students who stay after school for additional academic support. Some students remain on campus to complete assignments, receive individualized assistance, work on missing assignments, or prepare for assessments. Having snacks available helps students stay focused and engaged during these extended learning opportunities. A hungry student has a much harder time concentrating, persevering through challenging work, and reaching their academic goals.

The requested flexible seating will allow students to move safely and appropriately while working, while calming items will provide students with tools they can use to self-regulate when they feel overwhelmed, anxious, frustrated, or overstimulated. These resources will help create a classroom environment where students can recognize their individual needs and develop strategies that support independence.

Your support will help create a classroom where students can feel comfortable, supported, and ready to learn. Whether a student needs to wiggle while working, take a moment to calm down, or grab a snack while completing after-school work, these seemingly small resources can have a tremendous impact on their ability to stay engaged and experience success.
