Building Bright Futures, One Book at a Time!

Help me give my students books that support their learning in and outside the classroom. Some of these books support curriculum, some help teach literary devices and social emotional learning, and others are just to enjoy!

Mrs. VanLandingham Homestead Elementary School
Eagle River, AK Grades 3-5

My Project

My students are curious, creative, kind, and full of questions about the world around them. They love discovering new ideas, sharing stories, and finding characters and experiences they can connect with. I want our library to be a place where every child can find a book that makes them excited to read, helps them learn something new, or reminds them that their feelings and experiences matter.

The new books in this project will support our curriculum by giving students engaging, age-appropriate texts that build vocabulary, background knowledge, comprehension, and a lifelong love of reading.

They will also provide opportunities to explore social-emotional learning through stories about friendship, empathy, perseverance, emotions, problem-solving, and understanding different perspectives.

Most importantly, these books will give students more opportunities to choose what they read and see themselves reflected in the stories they encounter. A well-stocked library can spark curiosity, encourage meaningful conversations, and help children discover the joy of reading simply for the fun of it. With your support, we can fill our library with books that help our students learn, grow, connect, and dream.
