Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My kindergarten students are curious, imaginative, and enthusiastic learners who love experiencing stories together. I teach at a Title I school, where creating joyful and meaningful literacy experiences helps bring our classroom community together.

Each morning, we begin our school day by reading a story from beloved authors such as Mo Willems, Eric Litwin, H.

A. Rey, and others. We especially enjoy reading book series together and following familiar characters through their different adventures. This is a special part of our routine that my students always look forward to!

The storybook stuffed animals—including Piggie and Gerald, The Pigeon, Pete the Cat, Curious George, and characters from The Good Egg and The Bad Seed—will help bring our favorite books to life. Students will use these reading buddies to retell stories, describe characters, practice sequencing events, strengthen comprehension, and develop important literacy skills connected to our curriculum. The characters can also encourage conversations about emotions, friendship, kindness, and making good choices.

These resources will make reading more interactive, exciting, and memorable while helping my students build confidence and develop a lifelong love of books.
