My Project

My students are 6th, 7th, and 8th graders on the South Side of Chicago. I'm a first-year teacher, and I'll be setting up two classrooms this year: a lab-focused room for experiments and messiness, and a cozy classroom for lessons and calmer activities. Included in my project are some basics like pencils, storage bins, and cleaning supplies that will help my classroom run smoothly. I'm VERY excited about the lab coats in this project; I want my students to walk into lab and feel like they can 'do' science, and I think having real PPE will make a big impact towards that goal! I'm also including personal care products, like toothbrushes, deodorant, and Vaseline. I want my students to know that their needs will be met in this classroom. The aesthetic/functional additions of the science cell models and the alternative seating and classroom rug will help both classrooms feel energetic and welcoming.
