My Project

The focus of this project is building a stronger graphic novel section, stocking extra copies of favorites, and discovering new titles that will lead students to explore different genres and authors.

A lot of folks are skeptical about graphic novels, but our developing readers and English Language Learners love them.

(And I know that they're a great tool for snagging dormant readers who haven't found the "right" books yet.)

Extra copies of favorites will help prevent frustration for students who are in the reading zone and don't want to get interrupted. New titles fill shelves that have been carefully weeded to remove old or uninteresting titles--and capture the imagination of readers looking to branch out from their usual favs. Titles have been carefully chosen in both fiction and nonfiction to support social/emotional learning as well.

BMS students are coming around to the idea that reading is a great way to relax, learn, and explore the world around them. I want to give them every story I can to help them continue their reading journeys.
