My Project

As middle school cross country coaches, one of our favorite parts of coaching is watching our students discover what they are capable of. Many of our runners come into the season unsure of themselves, and some have never run competitively before. Over the season, we get to watch them become stronger, more confident, and proud of what they can accomplish.

We are asking for help purchasing 10 smartwatches so our student-athletes can track their progress from the beginning of the season all the way to race day.

These watches will give our runners access to important information such as pace, heart rate, and cadence during practices and races.

At the beginning of the season, we can use this data to establish a starting point for each runner. As the weeks go by, our athletes will be able to look back and actually see their improvement. For a middle school student, seeing that growth can be a huge confidence boost. They may notice they can hold a steady pace longer, run the same course faster, or become more efficient during a workout.

As coaches, the watches will help us teach our runners how to train smarter. We can help them learn how to pace themselves, understand their effort, set realistic goals, and make adjustments throughout the season.

Our goal is not for every student to be the fastest runner. We want each student to become a stronger, more confident runner than when they started.

When race day comes, we want our athletes to look back at their first practices and see just how far they have come. These watches are more than technology. They are tools that will help our students see that hard work and consistency lead to progress, one practice, one mile, and one step at a time.
